Ann Smyth is a stained glass artist based in Northern Ireland.

After completing her degree in stained glass at Edinburgh College of Art Ann travelled to California where she honed her skills as a stained glass artist at the Judson Studios in Los Angeles.

After eight years Ann returned to Northern Ireland where she now works from her rural studio located on the beautiful shores of Strangford Lough in Co.Down. Here she designs and creates stained glass for churches, public buildings and private collections.

Her intention for every new commission is to create something totally unique and memorable for each specific location.

Drawing inspiration from her traditional training and love of medieval glass and also from the beautiful countryside filled with history and tales of myth and folklore that surrounds her, Ann adds a contemporary twist to her work, creating pieces that are both original and timeless.

Each piece, traditional or abstract, liturgical or secular, serves as a portal for contemplation and transformation. Her passion for symbolism and her sensitivity to the spiritual power of light give her work an uplifting and transcendental quality.

In addition to her large architectural work, Ann also creates unique jewellery and small pieces of stained glass art enabling everyone to enjoy the magic of this ancient and beautiful art form.

“I love how the manipulation of light has such a profound effect on the senses and how sunlight hitting a carefully placed crystal or bevel has the ability to awaken the inner child in all of us. I shall never tire of chasing rainbows!”
