This Elderflower stained glass roundel has been hand painted on mouth blown English antique glass. The traditional stained glass techniques used to create this piece have not changed since medieval times.

This piece is perfect hung in a window on its own or can be grouped with other pieces from the collection.

the yellow areas on this piece are achieved using silver stain which was introduced in the 14th century and is what gives stained glass its name

The Elder tree is revered in Irish folklore as a tree of protection and the domain of faerie folk. When planted near a home it is said to ward off evil spirits and protect the household from witches.
Elderflower, Sambucus nigra, is widely used in traditional medicine to treat colds and flu and, reduce fevers. It can also help with seasonal allergies. It supports a healthy blood supply and is a powerful anti-inflammatory. Once the flowers have faded the Elder tree produces clusters of jewel-like black berries which are a rich source of vitamin A & C.
