Glass Art
This Church Mouse (I have named him Cyril as I think he looks like a Cyril) has been hand painted and kiln fired using traditional stained glass techniques which have not changed since medieval times. He is pictured against a traditional quarry design church window featuring a cheese detail.
Although I do sometimes make multiples of the same design each one will be truly unique due to the nature of the glass and the fact that each piece is hand painted….there are no short cuts in traditional stained glass.
This unique piece is perfect hung on its own or can be grouped with other pieces from the collection.
6.75cm x 13cm including copper ring for hanging
hand painted, kiln fired glass
the yellow areas on this piece are achieved using silver stain which was introduced in the 14th century and is what gives stained glass its name
traditional lead surround
copper ring attached for hanging in a window
presented in an environmentally friendly gift box
all packaging is plastic free
A little note on safety which I am legally obliged to include in my description:
This is not a toy. It is made of glass and therefore may break if dropped resulting in very sharp edges. I suggest keeping it well away from pets and small children. Your unique piece has been made using traditional stained glass methods with a lead surround. Lead is safe to handle but toxic if consumed, I therefore recommend washing your hands after handling.

This stained glass seaweed roundel, also known as a rondel, has been hand painted on a beautiful piece of mouth blown English antique glass made by Hartley Wood, an incredible glass manufacturer that is sadly no longer in existence. The traditional stained glass techniques used to create this piece have not changed since medieval times.
The designs for all my seaweed pieces are based on drawings I have made of seaweeds found on my local beach. This particular one is based on Irish Moss.
This stained glass roundel (also known as a rondel) is perfect displayed alone in a window, where light brings the painted glass to life, or grouped with other pieces from the collection for a striking botanical arrangement.

About Irish Moss Seaweed
Irish Moss (Chondrus crispus) has been used in traditional medicine for centuries. Historically, it has been associated with soothing respiratory ailments like coughs and sore throats, consumed in broths as a nutrient rich convalescence food and used topically to treat skin conditions and heal wounds. It is also beneficial for gut health and thyroid function.

Please note that this stained glass artwork is made using traditional leaded techniques and is therefore not suitable for children. We recommend washing hands after handling.
A beautiful piece of Irish sea botanical stained glass, this roundel makes a meaningful gift for nature lovers, sea swimmers, herbalists, or anyone drawn to Ireland’s natural heritage.
Be transported to carefree summer days by the sea with this hand painted and kiln fired stained glass roundel, inspired by native Irish Bladderwrack seaweed (Fucus vesiculosus). Crafted using traditional stained glass techniques unchanged since medieval times, this piece captures the beauty and healing heritage of Ireland’s coastline.
Part of the “Nature’s Apothecary” collection this piece celebrates the medicinal healing powers of native Irish plants, trees and seaweed drawing on centuries of folklore and traditional herbal knowledge.

About Bladderwrack Seaweed
Bladderwrack seaweed (Fucus vesiculosus) has been used in traditional medicine for centuries. Historically, it has been associated with supporting iodine deficiency, joint pain, skin health, digestion, urinary tract health, and thyroid function, making it a powerful symbol of coastal healing.

Call of the Sea is a collaborative mixed media sculpture created with my studio partner, ceramicist Charlene Rooney in our shared studio space. Charlene has sculpted the seal from fine porcelain, inspired by the seals we regularly see just outside our studio in Castle Ward, a National Trust property on the shores of Strangford Lough. He is meticulously hand-painted to capture the unique character and gentle presence of these beautiful creatures.
The seal is mounted on a piece of native burr elm, hand-finished by local woodturner Mark Hanvey, and embellished with delicate flameworked glass bubbles.
Behind the seal sits a traditionally painted fused glass roundel, acting as a portal to the sea. The roundel is decorated with a sun and moon, symbolising the eternal pull of the tides. At the base are pebbles with their distinctive rings reminiscent of those found along our local shore. The border draws inspiration from the tentacles of sea anemones that thrive in the rock pools nearby.
Together, these elements celebrate the rhythm of the coastline — the meeting of land, sea, and sky — and the enduring call of the sea.
Overall height 25.5cm
Base 20cm wide x 15.5cm deep
Seal 22cm in length
Glass roundel 20.5cm diameter

The lotus flower is significant and revered in many cultures for its ability to rise from the dirty, murky waters to bloom into a beautiful pure flower. This Saint Brigid of Kildare giclée print would make a wonderful addition to any home, either as a stand alone piece or as one of a set from my print collection.

Patron saint of healers, poets, blacksmiths and dairy maids, Saint Brigid of Kildare also known as Saint Bridget or Saint Bride is one of Ireland's best known saints.
She is said to have been very beautiful with a compassionate character. Many of the tales of her life are about her meeting the spiritual and physical needs of her neighbours. She turning her bath water into beer to quench the thirst of some visiting clerics, my personal favourite, and her cows were said to give milk three times a day.
She died and was buried in Kildare , but during the Danish invasions her remains were removed to Downpatrick, just a few miles from where I live, and here she was reburied with the remains of Saint Patrick and Saint Columba.
She is the patron saint of healers, poets, blacksmiths and dairy maids.
In this image she is pictured against a background of St Brigid's crosses which are traditionally woven from rushes on February 1st (St Brigid's feast day) and set over doorways or windows to protect the home from any kind of harm.
Please note that the frame is not included and is for illustrative purposes only.

This piece shows St Brendan with his monks on his incredible voyage to sail to the promised land.
Of all Irish saints, Brendan was the greatest traveller and is said to have celebrated Easter on the back of a whale....how fabulous!
Tales of his voyages have been so embellished that it is impossible to separate fact from fiction.
An incredible epic voyage led by Tim Severin in the 1970s showed that it was indeed possible to sail a coracle of wood and leather to America showing that Irish monks may well have preceded Christopher Columbus by several centuries.

This greeting card is printed from my original stained glass design artwork . It depicts the Irish saint St Brigid of Kildare.
Although historical facts about this saint are extremely rare there is a wealth of miracle stories and anecdotes surrounding her life some of which are deeply rooted in Irish folklore. One of my favourites is the tale of her changing her bath water into beer to satisfy the thirst of unexpected clerical visitors!
St Brigid is the patron saint of healers, poets, blacksmiths and dairy maids.
